To be eligible for the award, the senior author of the paper must have been enrolled in an accredited residency program at the time of original submission of the paper to the journal. Only papers that were published under the classification of Original Research or Clinical Communication will be considered for the award. The winner of this new award will be announced in the first issue of the Journal in 2014 as well as online. In addition, the winner will also receive a prize of €500 from the publisher, Schattauer GmbH, and a free 1-year subscription to VCOT.
